Have you ever thought about becoming an all-powerful being when you grow up? Creating your own world, over which you are the ruler? Being behind all of the controls, and able to change the way things look and feel for everyone? If you're still with us and in good mental health, you should consider a career as a webmaster. These computer experts are not completely omnipotent—yet—but they do exercise almost total control over our online experience. They can choose the color of a home page, the kind of code that powers a website, or the servers that connect it to the internet. Webmasters can tell you how many people have visited an ad, can delete or respond to comments, and fix "bugs" that make it difficult to use a site. And as our culture continues to rely on websites to communicate, buy, and learn, this role will become even more powerful in the future. (Insert evil laugh here.)
The Details
The webmaster creates a user-friendly interface to make websites easy for people to use and navigate.
Most of the top-visited websites in the world are search engines (like Google and Yahoo), and they're used in countries all over the globe—from China to Ghana to Brazil, and just about every place in between.
