The Scoop

Do you consider yourself a good judge of character? Are you a natural "peacemaker," skilled at settling arguments between your family members or friends? Then you might make an excellent human resources specialist. Human resources (HR) specialists are responsible for finding and hiring great people (and sometimes, sadly, firing them). They're also responsible for caring for employees at every step along the way, interviewing them, training them, and ensuring they get the benefits and salary they deserve. At some companies, HR specialists also help to settle problems concerning discrimination on behalf of an employee's gender, sexual orientation, age or illness. It takes a graceful, diplomatic person to handle these important responsibilities while minimizing conflict—but HR specialists have grace in spades.
